Welcome to Sam Houston Area Council

The Sam Houston Area Council serves approximately 28,000 youth in 16 counties in Southeast Texas through dedicated service and leadership of approximately 10,000 adult volunteers. Scouting is completely funded by the generosity of those that believe in its mission.

Aquatics Summit is a fun-filled event for Scouts in troops, crews, and ships. Participants attend two merit badge classes and/or try climbing and paddleboarding. Sea Scouts and Venturers can participate in survivor-inspired adventures. August 7-9, 2026.

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest recognition a local council can bestow on a volunteer. Nominate Scouters who have served youth above and beyond the call of duty. Nominations are due September 1, 2026.

Full Throttle

Full Throttle

Full Throttle is a weekend event for troops. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as range and target activities, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating, and a half-day working on a merit badge.  September 18-20, 2026 or December 4-6, 2026

The construction-themed Merit Badge Day is an opportunity for Scouts to work on the Electricity, Plumbing, or Safety Merit Badge. Classes are sponsored by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston and Construction and Maintenance Education Foundation. October 10, 2026

Campsgiving, held during Thanksgiving break, is the turducken of camps—an all-in-one experience combining Turkey Camp, STEM Camp, and Mission Lone Star. Winter camp is a wonderful opportunity for troops to camp and Scouts to earn merit badges. Merit badge classes are taught by Scouters with real-life experiences in the field. December 26-31, 2026

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is designed to provide Scouts in troops, crews, and ships with leadership skills and experiences they can use in their unit and other situations demanding leadership of self and others. December 26-31, 2026

Adventure Camp

Adventure Camp is a weekend campout at Bovay Scout Ranch for Cub Scouts and their families. Scouts can participate in an exciting variety of activities at several program areas and STEM-based activities.

The council is dedicated to ensuring all Scouts can attend camp. Camperships aid aims to make attending camping programs possible for deserving Scouts who would otherwise be unable to meet the fee requirements.
